Artist's Statement:
I strive to capture the essence of a subject using digital photography, sometimes with extensive enhancement.  Most of my images are representational, but some are experimental and abstract. All are characterized by a strong sense of composition and color or contrast, with a painterly effect.   I started out as a painter many years ago, and painting still informs my work.  Sometimes I "paint" over every pixel numerous times to achieve the desired effect.  This process may take many hours, but is a form of meditation and is very relaxing.  Very few people would have the patience to do it, but I find it very rewarding.  Earlier images were taken with Olympus equipment.  I am currently shooting with a 10.2-megapixel Nikon D40X, which produces such good images that they seldom need to be modified except to convert to black-and-white.
